For technical founders and product engineers

Coding agents start at the ticket. Motriz starts at the idea.

Motriz is a desktop workspace that carries one product from “should this exist?” to a product ready to ship — validation, specs, interactive prototypes, and coding agents in one continuous project. Coding is the easy part. Motriz makes sure the result is worth shipping.

The duct-tape stack

You don’t lose weeks to bad code. You lose them to lost context.

ChatGPT for the thinking. A Notion doc for the spec. Paste it into a coding agent. Re-explain the product to every tool, every session. The context dies at each handoff — and the failure mode isn’t broken code, it’s three polished features nobody wanted.

PAIN 01

Shipped, polished, unwanted.

The agent did exactly what the ticket said. The ticket was the wrong thing to build.

PAIN 02

The context reconstruction tax.

Every new session starts from zero. You are the RAM for your own product.

PAIN 03

PRDs that die in Notion.

A spec that has to be copy-pasted into a coding tool is a spec that gets ignored.

One continuous project

A project, not a prompt.

Chat, Product Design, and Build aren’t separate tools. They’re three ways to move the same product forward — sharing one memory, so nothing gets re-explained.

01 / CHAT

Understand what matters.

Work through product questions, inspect the repository, research the web, bring in specialists, and save the useful output as artifacts that persist.

02 / PRODUCT DESIGN

Make it tangible before it’s expensive.

Turn decisions into specifications, acceptance criteria, build prompts, and interactive prototypes you can click through — before an engineer (human or agent) writes a line.

03 / BUILD

Ship it into your real repository.

Turn approved product context into tested changes in the repository — without another handoff or re-explaining the work.

The work carries forward

The next agent starts with the decisions already made.

Research becomes a brief. Product Design turns the brief into a spec and a working prototype. Build receives those artifacts as explicit context — attached to the run, not reconstructed from a ticket. This is the moment other tools make you copy-paste. Motriz makes it a handoff.

  • Project memoryBriefs, research, links, files, specs, prompts, and prototypes stay attached to the project — first-class objects, not chat scrollback.
  • Inspectable productTest the behavior and interface in an interactive prototype before engineering commits to anything.
  • Build context, automaticallyAttach the approved artifacts directly to the implementation thread. The build agent opens the run already knowing what and why.

Starting with an idea?

From idea to a build-or-kill decision in a weekend.

Venture pairs you with a co-founder agent that guides the journey — problem, first customer, market, assumptions, evidence, experiments — and pulls in a bench of 20+ specialists as the work demands: customer discovery, competitor mapping, positioning, business model, technical feasibility, MVP scope, and more. Phase gates force an explicit call at each stage: build, validate, pivot, or stop. The co-founder recommends; you decide. If the answer is build, the PRD, scope, UX flow, and feasibility context move straight into engineering. If the answer is stop, you just had the cheapest failure of your career.

Engineering without ceremony

As much orchestration as the job deserves.

A quick fix gets one agent. When the stakes rise, chain providers into flows — one model plans, another executes step by step, and others test and refine the result. You choose the ceremony; the workspace stays the same.

  • Built-in flowsPlan → Build. Heavy Plan → Build. Staged executions with approval loops. Fan-out steps that run sub-agents in parallel. Or a single focused run.
  • Your providers, mixed per stepYour Claude Code and Codex logins, ChatGPT, Ollama Cloud — or any key you bring: OpenRouter, Cerebras, Hugging Face. Each doing what it’s best at, in one thread.
  • Repository-native executionAgents work against the actual codebase, run its tests, and carry the same approved product context through every step.

Your machine. Your keys. Your repos.

Runs on your machine. Bills to your own subscriptions.

01

No hosted backend.

A real desktop app. No account, no sign-up, no telemetry — your code and your ideas stay on your machine. Even thread titles are generated on-device with Apple Intelligence.

02

Your subscriptions, your keys.

Motriz drives the claude and codex logins you already pay for, or any API key you bring. No token markup, no credits, no middleman bill.

03

Encrypted at rest.

Provider settings live in a local SQLite database, encrypted with AES-256-GCM. Your credentials never leave your machine.

04

Verify it yourself.

Signed and notarized by Apple. The only network traffic is your AI providers and the update check — put a proxy on it and watch.

Start where the work is

Begin with the uncertainty you actually have.

Motriz doesn’t force every project through the same funnel. Enter at the idea, the feature, or the repository — and move to the next mode when the product is ready.

IDEA

Decide whether to build.

Frame the problem, gather evidence, test assumptions, and make an explicit build / validate / pivot / stop decision.

FEATURE

Shape what should exist.

Define the behavior, map the experience, and test an inspectable prototype before implementation.

REPOSITORY

Move the software forward.

Understand the codebase, make the change, run the tests, and leave the product ready to ship in the repository.

Where Motriz fits

They manage agents. Motriz manages the product the agents are building.

vs. agent orchestrators Conductor, Vibe Kanban, Crystal

They parallelize tickets. Motriz owns what happens before the ticket exists — and hands it to the build agent as context.

vs. prompt-to-app builders Lovable, Bolt, v0

A demo isn’t a product. Motriz prototypes and ships into your real repository.

vs. AI PM tools ChatPRD, Notion AI

A PRD that has to be copy-pasted is a PRD that gets ignored. In Motriz, the PRD is the build context.

vs. the duct-tape stack ChatGPT + Notion + Cursor

Stop re-explaining your product to every tool.

Questions we actually get

FAQ

I already have Cursor / Claude Code. Why add Motriz?

Keep them — Motriz literally runs your existing Claude Code and Codex logins. It adds what they don’t have: the upstream product work, and the context that survives between sessions.

Isn’t this just another agent wrapper?

Wrappers optimize the run. Motriz optimizes the project: what to build, the evidence for why, an inspectable prototype — then the run, with the full trail kept.

I can validate ideas with ChatGPT for free.

You can get opinions for free. Motriz gives you structure: a co-founder agent, 20+ specialists, assumptions tracked against evidence, experiments, and a phase gate that forces an explicit build / pivot / stop call. And if the answer is build, the PRD moves straight into engineering instead of dying in a chat transcript.

Which AI do I need?

Any of: a Claude Code or Codex subscription you already have, a ChatGPT login, or an API key for Ollama Cloud, OpenRouter, Cerebras, or Hugging Face. Configure only what you want — Motriz never marks up your tokens.

Is Motriz open source?

No — Motriz ships as a signed, notarized macOS app. Local-first isn’t a license, it’s an architecture: no hosted backend, no account, no telemetry, and your provider credentials stay in an encrypted local database. If you want to verify that, watch the network — the only traffic Motriz produces is your AI providers and the update check.

Does Motriz connect to Linear or Notion?

It’s on the way — agents will connect through Linear’s and Notion’s official hosted integrations, authorized with your own account in your browser. No Motriz middleman, no API keys to paste. Motriz stays the source of truth; the artifacts flow out to where your team lives.

No permission system? Agents can write anything?

Deliberate. Motriz is a personal power tool for repositories you own, running locally. That’s the honest trade for zero-ceremony speed — and nothing ever leaves your machine.

Why macOS only?

Focus, not limitation. The people Motriz is built for are overwhelmingly on Macs. Other platforms are on the roadmap — telling us you’re waiting is the fastest way to move them up.

What does it cost?

Motriz is free during early access — and the app you download today is the free tier, not a trial. You pay only for the AI you already have: your subscriptions, your keys, no markup, no credits, no seat fee. Premium capabilities are planned as additions on top — deeper specialist benches, smarter cross-provider workflows, richer integrations — and early-access users will hear about them first.
